A letter.

On our wedding day, over two years ago now, we received countless wedding cards with the most beautiful well wishes, but one card in particular really stood out that day.  And this card was from my sweet aunt and uncle.

They gave Peter and I the most beautiful card containing the most beautiful letter.  And this letter has since found a permanent home on our fridge.  It is there for all the world to see, placed amongst our most treasured photos and beloved memories, and it serves as a reminder to love each other as Christ loves us.

So the letter goes a little something like this...

Dear Peter and Malia,

We are so excited that your marriage is going to be rooted and centered in Jesus Christ. Personally, we have found that without Him, we may have been able to "survive" our lives together. With Him, marriage becomes a beautiful instrument in His hands designed to accomplish His purposes on earth.

Our sense is that your marriage is uniquely designed by God. It is no accident that you two are joining together. We sought Him and simply asked if He could speak to the uniqueness of your marriage.

Here is our sense:
  • Your marriage will be marked by great joy and laughter, including the ability to laugh at yourselves.
  • Your marriage will be marked by deep compassion for the lost, oppressed and suffering.
  • Your marriage will be marked by deep friendship and companionship.
  • Your marriage will be marked by perseverance and thankfulness to God for His goodness to you both.
  • Your marriage will be marked by acts of loving kindness, one to another and to others.
  • Your marriage will be marked by generosity.
  • Your marriage will be marked by adventure.
  • Your marriage will be marked by faith.
Lord, we pray and agree that everything You have said will come to pass. To You be the glory.

We love you both so much and look forward to getting some time together.

Love Aunt and Uncle.

Isn't that just beautiful??  During those moments when Peter is driving me crazy - I reread this letter, and I am reminded of the fact that our marriage was and is uniquely designed by God.  And within that same moment, I am also reminded that maybe it isn't Peter that is driving me crazy, but rather my own self.  And the really crazy thing is, I feel as though so many of those things have come to pass. Our marriage has been marked by great joy and laughter, our marriage has been marked by deep friendship and companionship, our marriage has been marked by generosity and deep compassion for the lost.  And for all these things I am eternally thankful.

So Lord I continue to pray, as my aunt and uncle did before me, that everything You have said will come to pass.  To You be the glory forever and ever!
