There are so many things I want to say to you, so many moments I've just let pass me by. I've thought, I need to write that down, I need to remember this, and the moment passes. But tonight, I find myself tucked into bed as your dad's out of town, and I'm just sitting here reflecting on YOU. I'm just filled with so much gratitude for you.
A few weeks ago we had your first parent-teacher conference. I was so excited to just sit in Mrs. Grabow's presence and hear what she had to say about you and how things were going. It's the strangest thing to be on the other side of things, I truly had no idea what she was going to say. It's strange to think I know you, but I don't know you in a classroom setting.
And Jack, what she said blew me away. I mean I love you deeply, but then to hear the words Mrs. Grabow spoke over you, her words brought tears to my eyes. She drew you into our circle, and she just said, Jack I'm so proud of you. I'm so proud of how far you've come and how hard you work. You are such a hard worker and you're so willing to try and persist and you want to learn so bad. And these are all words and phrases we use to instill that growth mindset at home! But to hear her speak those words over you, your teacher, who you've only known for a month just broke me. It was beautiful and she not only spoke to you, but she spoke right to this mama's heart.
And then today, I had the privilege to chaperone your fieldtrip to the pumpkin patch. And truly, what a privilege. I just kept thinking, I feel so lucky that I get to be here with you, with your new friends, on the bus, eating lunch, picking pumpkins, and laughing together. One of the boys in our trio said I wish my mom was here, and I said I bet she wishes the same buddy. I just delight in you and I delight in who you're becoming. And you are just so tender and soft hearted.
Jack, I feel like I've grown right alongside you as you've paved the way of motherhood for me. And I'm just blown away when I look at you, to think just 5 years ago, you were so itty bitty, just a babe so dependent on me for everything, and here you are growing more and more independent each and every day.
I love you deeply my sweet child. And I pour out my praise to the Lord for your life! May you never forget that His love never fails.
