Post written by the husband...

Jack was born, at the University of Washington Medical Center this week (January 6th) via C-Section. Malia had been in the hospital for seven days because of complications arising from blood pressure.  The choice for a C Section was made when it became apparent that Jack could not tolerate contractions, as Malia was actually laboring. And so Jack was born six weeks short of full term.  As Malia lay on the table, and I tried to comfort her the Doctors pulled Jack out to exclamations of  "He is so cute!". Then Malia and I heard the most wonderful thing of our lives - Jack crying!

The road to recovery for Malia will be long, some six weeks, but she is doing very well and was even discharged yesterday! Jack is in the NICU, where he sleeps in an incubator, is being fed by bottle as well as some of the time by stomach tube.  He is doing incredibly well, and has never needed any help breathing - he even scored nine out of ten on his Apgar score - they hardly ever give tens!

Jack continues to amaze us each day, with his silly faces, his ability to yank out his feeding tube with his little hands, how he smiles for girls in pictures, how quickly he learns, and just his out of control cuteness...We are so thankful to God for this little bundle of joy. We are also so thankful for how he has been bathed in prayers by all of you. Thank you!

Malia has been amazing, through all of this, as each time our plans changed she took it in stride with grace and laughter. She has also taken to being Jack's mother, with ease and so much pleasure. The first time she held him, was such a special moment for her as she formed an unbreakable bond with him....

I am sure there will be more updates in the coming weeks, as Jack graduates out of the NICU and comes home with us. Please continue to pray for us and for Jack, and also pray as we consider how we will pay for all of these medical bills! We know that God will provide, but we are not sure how he will do that just yet...

Many blessings

Peter, Malia and Little Jack
