Las Vegas.
So my mom, sister and I ventured to Las Vegas, Nevada to celebrate a monumental moment for my sister. Not only was Brianna turning 30, but we had never gone on an adventure with just the three of us. We had checked the weather report only to discover that the hottest day was actually the day we were leaving, but that didn't stop us from digging deep into our drawers to pack our hot weather clothes.
I had been to Vegas before, but it was when I was 18, thus I never fully experienced all Vegas had to offer, or so I was told! So this time was truly a new experience and I felt as though I saw Vegas for the first time. Granted I am nearly 10 years older, which is CRAZY to think about. I am a little more seasoned and I hope I have more wisdom now than I did then. I also see things differently at 27 than I did at 18. I was overwhelmed simply walking through the maze of our hotel, the Mirage. All we wanted was the elevator to get up to our room, and in order to get to the elevator you had to walk by all the restaurants and through the casino, past the maze of people who were simply, in my opinion, wasting their money away.
Once we made it to our room, I realized that someone was IN there when I heard laughter coming through the cracks in the door. Sure enough our room was indeed occupied, and after calling the front desk we realized that the front desk person had switched the numbers around, so instead of being in room 22102 we were in fact in room 22012. So we get to room 22012 only to discover that our keys no longer work, someone comes and helps us with that. Then we discover that its not the view my mom was hoping for, so we moved to another room with a beautiful view. So after lugging our luggage down the various hallways, we finally settled on our third room. I guess third times the charm because the view was amazing!
So our first day there we unpacked some things, checked out some hotels, found somewhere to eat dinner, and pretty much laid low...well at least until that evening! Brianna had her whole heart set on dancing her heart out this trip, which was rather shocking to me, considering my sister doesn't go out THAT often. I, on the otherhand, hadn't realized how lame marriage had made me. No offense to Peter, but I go to bed EARLY now compared to back in my marriageless days! Not that going to bed early makes a person lame, but truly once 9 or 10 rolled around while I was ready to climb under the covers for a late night girl chat, my sister was ready to shake her booty. So considering we were there celebrating HER and not ME, we chose to do just that. And we stayed out late....really late, like so late, I truly can't remember the last time I stayed out that late. But it was fun, and it was just the beginning of late nights in Vegas and little sleep.
We also saw a show on Bree's actually birthday, Love, the Beatles Cirque du Soleil Show, and it was nothing short of AMAZING!! I highly recommend it to everyone, however, it requires travel to Vegas, which some may not be so fond of. Needless to say we had a wonderful time, but bye bye Las Vegas I dont know if our paths will cross again. The Vegas extravagance is nearly too much for me. So within one week I transition from the extravagance of Vegas, to the simplicity of Africa. I hope I am ready for it!
