Peter has been gone 3 days now, and in that time I have finished 2 fairly long books. I can't help but wonder just how many books I will have read by the time he comes home. So Peter leaves and I stay up LATE and when I say LATE…I mean LATE like until 2 AM late. I am addicted to books - and I can't seem to put them down. When Peter is home he can tear the book out of my hands and force me to lay my head down at a decent hour, but when he is gone, I am hopeless and I stay up late, really late. But I have finished two pretty good books in a matter of days and I am pretty pleased with my accomplishment!
So I vowed that as soon as Peter left for the Dominican Republic I would dive into the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins that so many people have been ranting and raving about. My coworker was kind enough to let me borrow her kindle again and I stormed through the first one, the Hunger Games, and was so excited to just move onto the second one and then the third without missing a beat. However, I searched for the second one, Catching Fire, on her kindle for nearly 10 minutes, only to realize that she didn't actually have the second one. She had the third one on there, MockingJay, but the second one was nowhere to be found. And to my dismay, she informed me that she didn't actually HAVE the second one. So I wait and wait for it to show up at the Library. I even went so far to think…maybe i should just go to Barnes and Nobles and read the ENTIRE book in one sitting or multiple sittings?
Anyhow the Hunger games was great, really great, but I hear they kind of go down hill from here, but the first one leaves you hanging, yearning for more, and I have to wait.
So in the meantime I read other books. I just finished Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. And it was a beautiful story about a friendship that spanned three decades. When it came time to close the book for the last time, I found myself satisfied, but wanting to know MORE about the author. Firefly Lane takes place in the PAcific Northwest, and to be honest I think all of her books might. But she writes about Seattle, Bainbridge Island, and Silverdale even gets a little shout out. She writes about the University of WAshington and sorority life and all that comes with it -rush, exchanges, parties, friendship, etc. And Hannah even writes an endnote in the book explaining that this book had many parallels to her own - she grew up in Washington, attended the University of Washington and was even in a sorority! I couldn't help but wonder WHAT sorority she was in!! So tomorrow I will begin my search to find out if Hannah was either a Kappa Kappa Gamma or a Gamma Phi, and I will keep you all posted!
And tomorrow I will begin another book - Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult. To be honest, I have a slight feeling I may have already read this one considering I have read so many Picoult books, but I suppose we will soon find out!
