Simple Living.

So my church is doing this 50 day campaign (started on Easter) where they have asked others to live simply for 50 days so that they can give generously at the end of the 50 days...so that they can build partner with Living Water International and build wells in Uganda.

This is the second year of the campaign, but I must say the second time is a charm!  They raised a ton of money last year, but this year I just feel like things are different.  Maybe it's because more people are involved?  Or maybe it's because people are familiar with the campaign?  Or maybe it's because they have been able to SEE that their money truly did go to wells?

Who knows what the reason is...but Spilling Hope has a website and a blog...and even a facebook page!  They have grabbed hold of social media to advertise for this cause and they are running with it...and I think it is all so very beautiful!

But the reason why I am writing about it today is because someone posted a beautiful entry on the Spilling Hope blog ...and I have been dying to write about it.

The entry is simply titled Living Simply, so that others may simply LIVE...think about this.  What does this mean to you?  What does this idea of living simply...of simple living actually mean to you?  Because it has different meanings for every single person and this is something I have learned over the years.

So he writes...

“Live simply, so that others may simply live.” I borrowed this line from a bumper sticker I occasionally see. It makes a memorable but profound statement about the purpose of Spilling Hope. The goal of this campaign is not to induce guilt for living the way we do. Actually, it’s the opposite of that. The aim is to empower participants, who increase awareness of their lifestyle choices, exercise good stewardship over those choices, and, in so doing, display compassion, generosity, and HOPE to others.  This isn’t merely a matter of spending less money, or consuming less — although that’s part of it. It’s about recognizing the impact of the decisions we make — as Christians, as consumers, as Americans, as human beings. What effects do those decisions have on others — whether they’re our neighbors here in Seattle, or a struggling family on the other side of the world?"

So think about this...and consider what it would look like for you to live simply, so that others may simply LIVE!  What are you willing to give up...to go without so that others may have life?...clean water? food? opportunities? and the list could go on...but think.
