This one Time I had Babies.

A friend posted this blog post on her facebook page a few weeks ago, and I shared it instantly on facebook, but I also wanted to share it here.

The post is from the blog Hopefullyknown and it is (obviously) titled, This One Time I Had Babies, and let's just say it's beautiful.  As I read it, tears creeped into the corners of my eyes and soon enough they were streaming down my face.

So let it be known that I did warn you - it may make you cry.  But it might also make you squeeze your baby a little tighter and cherish all the things that seem so inconvenient right now (like late night feedings and blowouts and feeling like a milk machine)..right??

This baby stage is so short and it ends so quickly, and I just hope and pray that I'm cherishing each moment rather than hoping for the next moment when you can tell me what you want with words, the moment you are sleeping through the night and eating solid foods.

I know that there will come a day when I too will be saying...This one time I had a baby.  This one time I had a preemie, and this one time...you weighed just 4 lbs 6 ounces.

Here's a little video of Jack during that stage!  Enjoy.

This one time I had babies...

"Sweet, wide-eyed, tub of goo babies.  Babies who gave me fat on my thighs when they were inside of me and bags under my eyes when they were outside of me.  Babies who had to be fed and burped and diapered at all hours (day and night).  Babies who threw up on my friends.  Babies who cried at times, it seemed, for no good reason except to drive us to the brink of insanity.  But still they were gorgeous babies, for the most part healthy babies, and my husband and I were blessed to have had them...Today I want to remember the pull of sticky fingers tangled in my hair, the sweet smell of Burt's Bees baby oil rubbed into the soft skin of little arms and legs, and how it felt to hold babies who leaned into you and clutched at you like you were the air they needed to breathe (love that line)."

Happy Mother's Day.

Happy Mother's Day to all those moms out there - new and old.  You have no idea just how cherished and loved you are, and I hope you get a glimpse of how deep that love runs today.  Thank you for loving your children well.  It is an honor to walk amongst you.

Today marks a big day for me I suppose...my First Mother's Day!  And the strange thing is, I know I have a son, but it seems strange saying I'm someone's mom.  It hasn't sunk in fully yet.  I am a mother.  This is a new title and role that I add to the end of my name now, yet I wonder why it's hard for me to fully comprehend this new fact.

Maybe it's because I have only been a mom for 4 months, and it's still so very new, or maybe it's because I haven't heard my little guy call me mom yet, or maybe it's because I have a mom and it's strange to think that I'm now someones mom and that my mom is now a grandma!  How did that happen??  Don't answer that, we know how it all happened, but you get the point.

I just have to say it is an honor being a mom!  I mean what an incredible role the Lord has blessed us with - such a beautiful privilege to raise up this child in our home in hopes that he may come to know His true Father.  It just blows my mind.

And I must say that little buddy blows my mind with his cuteness.  We cover him in kisses and he covers us with spit up...I mean smiles.  There truly is nothing sweeter.

And I am his mom.  I remember having a conversation with a dad who has three daughters, while I was pregnant, and I was talking about us having a boy, and how I was a little nervous because I wouldn't be able to relate with him on certain things, and the dad just smiled and said...yeah, but you're the mom and you will always be his mom.

And it's true isn't it?  I am the mom.  I am the one who carried him for 34 weeks.  I am the one who has a scar on my tummy to mark his entrance into the world. I am the one who will most likely have saggy boobs after LB is done with them.  I am the only woman he smells regularly, the one whose hair he pulls on, the one who endures those smelly, stinky diapers and wipes his little bum, I am the one who gets up in the middle of the night, the one who comforts him when he's sad, the one who is definitely sleep deprived.  I am the mom.

And yet it is strange to be the one celebrated simply because I have been celebrating another for so many years now! And isn't she just lovely??

A huge thank you to my own mother for showing me how to love unconditionally.  You have loved us so well and your love runs so very deep.  You have always been so patient and extended so much grace.  And you have shown us the importance of true joy, laughter, and a beautiful friendship with your spouse.  Here's to you mom!!  Can't wait to celebrate you later today.  We love you so much!

Babies.

So Peter and I really love movies…thus we watch a lot of movies together! The most recent one was a little film called Babies. My sister had told me awhile ago that she had started it…realized there wasn't any talking and stopped it halfway. And as I type this, I am realizing that I still don't know if she ever got around to finishing it.

Well this movie, Babies, showed up at the library and was ready for pickup! My beloved Peter was so kind to pick up the DVD for me, and after seeing the title and the cover he kindly informed me that he would NOT be watching this one with me.

So I started the film without him. And figured I could watch it while I was baking cupcakes and tidying up our apartment considering there aren't any WORDS! So the film follows the lives of 4 babies…one in Namibia, another in Mongolia, Tokyo, and and the United States. The film opens in Namibia with these two little naked African babies pounding on some stones and the scene is pretty priceless..and I thought to myself GOSH I have to show this to Peter. And then later on in the film there is another scene where the baby is falling asleep while sitting up. And I thought gosh I have to show Peter THIS scene too.

So I was all excited to show him the parts in the film I thought he would find amusing!…and let me tell you that he found them so amusing that he decided he wanted to see the film from start to finish.

So that's what I find myself doing on a Wednesday night…watching a bunch of babies crawl around naked, wet themselves, poop on their moms, play with toilet paper and each other, and cry their eyes out!
