Goodbyes.

Peter and I have had to say an abnormal amount of goodbyes to each other lately.  First, it was his trip to the Dominican Republic, and then I got on a plane to head to Kansas City for work, and then a few weeks later he gets on a plane headed for Malawi, and then soon after he comes back from Malawi, I will be getting on a plane to California, and then hopefully, fingers crossed, we will get on a plane TOGETHER for our transatlantic flight to Ireland.

I just have to say I'm not a huge fan of goodbyes.  Maybe it's because I just love being with my husband and I truly miss my best friend when he's gone?  Or maybe it's because goodbyes are just plain sad?  Whatever it may be and whatever the reason, I know that I am lucky to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.  And I have started to think about how it could be so much worse.  When Peter goes and when we say our goodbyes, I know, God willing, that he will be coming back in just a few weeks, at the latest.

And I can't help but wonder about those women who say their goodbyes to their husbands, who brush their lips with his, who hug him so hard for one last time, before they deploy for 6 months...a year...maybe even longer?  How would I handle the goodbye then?

Here I am yearning for my husband and he hasn't even left yet, and I find myself slightly mourning him when he does go, and I wonder how I would respond if he was gone for a month or even a FULL YEAR??  This isn't my reality, so I know it's slightly irrational for me to think this way, but the truth is...it's a reality for SO many out there, and we must never forget that!

So hold that man extra tight tonight...kiss him a little more deeply...and look into his eyes and tell him you love him! Be thankful for his presence in your bed...be thankful for his presence in your life.  I'm sure someone else would love to have their man beside them, but for the time being they are off serving their country and for that I am grateful!

Love Stories.

I have been thinking alot lately about the various love stories in my life.  A few weeks ago I was away in Kansas City at a conference for work and it seemed as though everyone wanted to hear about how I met my Irish husband.  And most of the time I gauge the time and the one requesting the story - how much do they REALLY want to know?  Are they just asking to be polite?  Should I give them the extended version or the shortened version?  And then the story telling begins...

See the thing is...I love hearing people's love stories - and I love the extended versions.  Everyone has a beautiful story to tell, but the question is...will you wait around long enough to hear it?  And I must say...I normally do!!  And as I sit here typing this so many beautiful love stories come to mind....

I have one friend that met her husband on a mission trip - they went to the same church and everything, but their paths didn't cross until they both signed up for the same mission trip to Costa Rica.

I have another friend who met her fiance online - not through a dating site, which is slightly shocking I know, but rather by following his blog!  He lived in Texas and she lived in Seattle - and they just got engaged a few weeks ago. Still slightly peeing my pants about this one.

And I have friends that DID meet online through various dating sites...I know some of you may be skeptical, but these friends are living proof that some truly do have online dating success stories!!

I have one friend who met her husband on Cinco de Mayo at Tacos Guaymas - seriously?  Who would have thought right?  She didn't even want to go out that night, but some of her dearest friends convinced her and this guy, her now husband, stopped her on her way to the bathroom...and the rest is history.  They dated for awhile, got engaged, married, and now have a beautiful baby girl!

I have another set of friends that met at a wedding...at the singles table!  And guess what??  They aren't single anymore.

I have friends that have been together the majority of their lives and started dating in High school and yes they are still together!  Isn't that beautiful?

Listen to this love story - guy from Seattle qualifies for the Boston Marathon - he goes to Boston to run the race, meets this gorgeous girl from CA, and the rest is history.  He has since moved to CA and they recently got engaged! Little did he know what God had in store for him when he flew down to Boston!!

I have another friend who met her husband at a bar...he was playing in the band, and she was enthralled by him from the word GO...and I have another friend her met her now fiance, soon to be husband, at a mutual friend's party.

And I have friends whose husbands started off as their dearest friends before their relationship turned into something deeper, something more romantic.

And I love each and every one of these stories because they are all so unique to the couple!

Every engaged or married couple has a love story...the big question is will you stick around long enough to hear the extended version??

Do you have a story to share?  I would LOVE to hear it!

Wedding videos.

I don't know what it is about wedding videos, but I just love them!  Peter teases me ALL the time for watching them.  I mean half the time I don't even know the couples in the video, but that doesn't keep me from watching them.  And just because I don't know the couple doesn't mean I don't know the joy and the love that radiates through them!

When I watch them, it simply takes me back to our wedding day 2.5 years ago.  The pure joy, the laughter, the love that was felt throughout the entire day simply overwhelms me even after all these years.  Oh I can remember the nerves, the energy, the excitement, the kiss, the weather, the food, the speeches.  So many beautiful moments inter wined to make an exceptionally beautiful and unforgettable day.

And when I watch these videos...I am once again reminded of the fact that we don't have a wedding video - makes me a little sad to be honest.  We do have some video footage, but nothing as cool as these!  I would definitely recommend it.  If you are currently planning your own wedding or dreaming of one that has yet to come...CONSIDER HIRING a videographer and for those who are in the Seattle area, CONSIDER HIRING Alec Cattarin.  His videos are truly amazing, but let's be honest, they completely speak for themselves!

Arthur.

So the beauty of my job is that I meet some really interesting people and have daily interactions with a mailman, Jim - the UPS guy, Arthur - the FedEX guy, Todd - the hilarious hollerer, and countless others who feel so called to enter through the door of the Cristy Carner Salon and Spa.

A few weeks ago, Arthur, the FedEX guy, asked me about married life and I shared a bit of my marriage with him, while he shared a bit of his with me. Well this bit entailed him informing me that he was married at the young age of 20 in Pakistan. His wife was 19 at the time and the whole thing was arranged. Now I thought I had my beliefs about arranged marriages figured out until I met my friend, Serenus. Serenus is a 26 year old Indian man living in Belfast. His sisters marriage was arranged, and he is betting that his will be too…IF HE SO CHOOSES. His parents are all for him marrying someone he randomly meets and falls in love with. However, Serenus explained that knowing that an arranged marriage is a possibility takes the pressure of his shoulders to randomly date. I mean let's be honest...dating can be stressful, especially for all those single 30 somethings out there who just want to meet someone delightful and marry them! See, for Serenus, he doesn't have to worry about any of that because he knows that if he doesn't meet anyone on his own, his parents will sort the whole thing out…sounds kind of nice doesn't it? I mean a whole lot of it is cultural too...and some cultures are SOO much more accepting of this whole arranged marriage business than others.

Well Arthur had different thoughts on arranged marriages…and his thoughts paralleled the thoughts of my former self. He told me that they had been married for over 30 years…and it had all become habit…just a habit. His said his wife was so stubborn and all she did was nag, nag, nag…he even went so far as to ask me if i nagged my husband. I, replying honestly because thats what I do, told him that OF COURSE I NAG MY HUSBAND…i mean i'm not proud of it, but it's almost like the cross I bear as a wife right? And it's a constant struggle with me. I don't want the nagging words to cross the threshold of my lips, but before I know it they do and they are out in the open, floating around, and I can't seem to get them back into my mouth quick enough! So it is definitely something I am working on because really WHO WANTS TO BE KNOWN AS THE NAGGING WIFE???

Anyhow, enough about me…back to Arthur. I wanted to laugh a little after I replied to his nagging question because that one question took me back to countless moments within my own marriage where I was the epitome of the nagging wife…and i was disgusted by myself. But I couldn't laugh, I couldn't even let out the slightest chuckle because when I looked at this man…when I really looked at him I saw that his shoulders sagged just a little lower than before, and his head was turned down and he was probably reliving all of his own nagging wife moments. He was probably feeling the weight of them ALL on his thin shoulders. And he simply smiled and said "I'm sure its nice to be in love"…and he shut the door behind him before I even had a chance to reply…."Well, yes, Arthur, you are right…it is nice to be in love."

And let me tell you it IS nice to be in love...marriage is truly SUCH a gift from the Lord and such a beautiful blessing. But more importantly it is so nice to be in love with my best friend. Thanks for reading...that's all for now folks!

P.S. The picture of the cartoon character, PBS kid, Arthur is by no means meant to depict the REAL life Arthur...BUT I use word associations and name associations ALL the time just so I can remember people's names and places and things. And whenever i see the REAL life Arthur I instantly think of the cartoon character Arthur which then helps me to remember that the name of the REAL man before me is in fact Arthur!

Newlywed Group.

As I was searching for pictures for this post...this lovely picture of Jessica and Nick popped up, and I just couldn't resist the urge to use it for this post! Gosh don't you remember this show? I know I DO! BUT ...the catch is...they are no longer newlyweds and they are no longer married! I can't even imagine having cameras follow me around all day ...taping EVERYTHING...my best moments and my absolute worst. Gosh I can be crazy sometimes...and how terrible would it be to have my crazy moments taped so that I could replay them over and over again! But this post isn't about Jessica and Nick Lachey and their Newlywed show or my crazy moments. This post is about our newlywed group...and beautiful marriages and families that are true reflections of Christ.

So ever since Peter and I got married we have been yearning to join some type of a newlywed group through our church, but our church at the time was restructuring groups...so we waited, and waited and a whole year went by and we received an email asking us if we were still interested in joining a group. We replied enthusiastically with a yes..yes..yes...BUT we have been married over a year now. Soo..the big question is...How long do you have to be married before people stop considering you newlyweds?

Well Peter and I officially joined a newlywed group a few months ago, and it has been such a true blessing! I don't even know where to begin...the couples in the group have only been married a few months. So we definitely have been married the longest, but they gave us the go ahead and said that even after a year we are still newlyweds!! So we figured we would stay in the group!!

We have met about 6 times now and begin each session by eating together! I must say one of my absolute favorite parts about our group is the couple that leads it and their beautiful daughters!! Oh my goodness...it has been such a joy to be around such beautiful and joyful children. As some of you may know I wasn't one for babysitting growing up and even now I am not surrounded by children ...and I miss it. But then I think how can I miss something I have never really had?? Well let me tell you...when Tuesday rolls around I am excited to get to the Werner's to see the girls!...don't get me wrong I love the adults, but THESE. KIDS. ARE. PRECIOUS. And their joy is contagious...I find myself yearning for one of them to sit by me during dinner...I find myself stretching out my hand to theirs...I find myself laughing at their little jokes...and longing for them to laugh at mine...I find myself making far too many silly faces...and I even find myself getting a LITTLE jealous when they are paying attention to someone else.

But more importantly...I truly find myself admiring their parents, Tiffany and Jonathan, for their strength, for their love for their family and our God, and for their willingness to host a group at their house even amidst all the goings on in their own lives!!! So let me just take a moment to enlighten you on the goings on...They just recently moved to a different house to be closer to Children's Hospital because this past January, at the tender age of 4, their daughter Michaela was diagnosed with leukamia. My heart breaks just thinking about this to be honest...and I barely know these people!! I should also add that Tiffany, the mom, was 7 months pregnant when this news broke and gave birth to Emily March in...MARCH. And please ALSO keep in mind that they have an older daughter Madeline, whose 8th birthday is right around the corner!

I could type all day about this family...BUT i won't. I just want to say that Peter and I have been blessed so abundantly by this group, by the beautiful Werner family, and by Tiffany and Jonathan's honesty...and if you are interested in hearing more about this family...Tiffany keeps a blog and she writes beautifully even if she may not know it!

Family Reunions and 30th Birthdays.

So we had another family reunion in Long Beach, WA over Peters 30th Birthday weekend!! I mean what better way to celebrate 30 years of life than with more than 30 people!! The families rented 3 houses close to the beach, and it was a great time! It was really fun to see all my cousins with ALL of their children...makes me feel like Peter and I need to get a move on the baby making..hah! And then to make Peters birthday extra special I baked his favorite cake, bought him a pirate pinata with other pirate paraphernalia, and and then a beer hat! We had alot of laughs, but unfortunately the pinata was destroyed by my dear sister before the big people got a chance! So here's some pictures to take you back to September, the beach, and Peters birthday!

First Anniversary.

So nearly two months ago now Peter and I celebrated our ONE YEAR anniversary on the Eve of Meg and Robs wedding! A whole year...gosh the time sure flew past. It has been such a joyous year...one of soo many memories, so much love and joy and laughter. Peter and I celebrated our anniversary by staying in a hotel downtown (that my amazing parents treated us to) and watching our wedding video while eating year old wedding cake! Then the next day we went to lunch in the market, the Seattle aquarium, and we finished the celebration with a delicious dinner at Rays Boathouse!

The Rumbles get Hitched!

Well we attended another beautiful wedding on August 22nd!! Some more of our dear, dear friends wed! It was such a joyous day and soo much fun! Peter and Jenny were married at Bethany Community Church near Greenlake...the same spot that Peter and I were married nearly a year before. So it brought back some beautiful memories! The ceremony was everything you would want it to be...and then the reception was just right next door. So we didn't have to travel too far! There were soo many good friends ...and such great food! So much seafood that her dad had flown in from all over the state...crab legs, oyster shooters, crab cakes...AND they even had a candy table for favors...which was a HUGE hit with everyone, especially ME! Love these two together...and soo happy that Peter Rumbles found such an AMAZING woman to call his wife.

Rob + Meg

So our dear friends Meg and Rob were married August 15, 2010...one whole year after my darling Peter and I were married! Peter and I feel so very honored to share an anniversary date with such an amazing couple! All the festivities took place at Sodo Park, which is an amazing venue...and the food was extra special and extremely delicious! The photos to follow are simply fabulous...and it helps that Meg and Rob are truly such beautiful people inside and out! Also check out the beautiful video below that was put together by one of the groomsmen, Alec Cattarin.

Marriage.

I just finished reading Elizabeth Gilbert’s second book Committed: A skeptic makes peace with marriage. Some of you may remember her first book Eat, Pray, Love, and Hollywood decided that the book would make a good movie, so in a matter of months Eat, Pray, Love, starring the fabulous Julia Roberts, hits the theatres.

BOOK THOUGHTS…

So in the book, Gilbert interviews people from all over the world about their thoughts on marriage, and while in Vietnam she has the chance to meet and speak with Hmong women about marriage. Gilbert writes, “My friend the Hmong grandmother had never been taught to expect that her husband’s job was to make her abundantly happy. She had never been taught to expect that her task on earth was to become abundantly happy in the first place. Never having tasted such expectations to begin with, she had reaped no particular disenchantment from her marriage. Her marriage fulfilled its role, performed its necessary social task, became merely what it was and that was fine” (p. 42).

She goes on to write… “By contrast, I had always been taught that the pursuit of happiness was my natural (even national) birthright. It is the emotional trademark of my culture to seek happiness. Not just any kind of happiness, either, but profound happiness, even soaring happiness. And what could possibly bring a person more soaring happiness than romantic love? I, for one, had always been taught by my culture that marriage ought to be a fertile greenhouse in which romantic love can abundantly flourish. Inside the somewhat rickety greenhouse of my first marriage, then, I had planted row after row of grand expectations” (p. 44). I love what she says here because it is so very true – our culture does in fact shape our beliefs about marriage and our happiness within it. Our culture has taught us to not only value our individualism, but to protect it. We have been taught to holdfast to OUR values, OUR rights, OUR beliefs, OUR desires, OUR wants because if we don’t then we won’t be happy. And ultimately, our happiness is all that matters right? WRONG, but the reality is that is what our culture has taught us. However, marriage was not created by our culture, but by God, and He created marriage not to make us happy but rather to make us HOLY. And that is what we MUST remember and NEVER ever forget!

In another part of the book she mentions how she made a list of her worst qualities and gave them to her partner, who then responded by saying, “Would you like to tell me something about yourself that I don’t already know?” FIRST OFF what a great way to respond…I loved it and wished he would then jump off the page so I could just squeeze him for his overwhelming acceptance of who she was and still is. Her partner continues the conversation by saying, “Anybody can love the most wonderful parts of another person. But that’s not the clever trick. The really clever trick is this: can you accept the flaws? Can you look at your partner’s faults honestly and say, ‘I can work around that. I can make something out of that?’ because the good stuff is always going to be there and it’s always going to be pretty and sparkly, but the crap underneath can ruin you”….so we must learn to work with the flaws. Gilbert goes on to say, “There is hardly a more gracious gift that we can offer somebody than to accept them fully, to love them almost despite themselves. I say this because listing our flaws so openly to each other was not some cutesy gimmick, but a real effort to reveal the points of darkness contained in our characters. They are no laughing matter, these faults. They can harm. They can undo. If we are at all self-aware, we work hard to keep these more dicey aspects of our natures under control, but they don’t go away. To be fully seen by somebody, then, and to be loved anyhow- this is a human offering that can border on the miraculous” (p. 130-131).

Isn’t that the truth?? Isn’t it miraculous and beautiful to be fully you with someone else? Isn’t it such a beautiful gift to be loved unconditionally? Isn’t that what we all want - Someone to love us in spite of our worst bits? This book made me think long and hard about my own marriage. In marriage you learn so much about yourself, and let me tell you I have learned so much about myself that I would rather not have learned!! My husband is simply a mirror reflecting the good, the bad and the ugly (and let me tell you there sure seems to be a lot of ugly) of who I am. He is kind, patient, and so loving, but when I go crazy, I go crazy and even the most kind, patient and loving man in the world could not stop the craziness. Within marriage there is someone holding you accountable to who you are and who you want to be. The other person is constantly trying to make you an even better person, but sometimes you want to yell at them (and sometimes I do) and say I don’t want to be better…I want to continue being a butt. However, when I fail to listen to him and when I continue to be a butt, nothing changes and the transformation of my being, especially the transformation of my heart does not occur.

I have so many friends getting married this year and sometimes I get scared that they will turn to me and ask me for advice, and I will look at them hopelessly and I will say I have no words of wisdom and I have no advice. However, the reality is, Peter and I have been married a little over ten months now so of course I have some advice to offer, but perhaps my advice will not be applicable to them or perhaps they want to pave their own way with marriage. So this is the advice I will offer. Be real. Be true. Be open. Be you. Because only when you are real, raw, honest and authentic will you ever fully experience true love.

Another piece of advice I would gladly offer is that they should lower their marriage expectations. In the book, Gilbert writes, “Plant an expectation; reap a disappointment,” and to be honest I have found this to be soo very true! I know it sounds horrible, but I think we all go into marriage with loads of expectations and we all feel as though we are entitled to be happy – our husband owes this to us – I am entitled to a happy marriage and I am entitled to be served and worshipped (okay a little extreme, but you get the point!). Don’t get me wrong, marriage is beautiful and it truly is such a gift from God and it does meet so many expectations, but the reality is that whenever you combine two people together – two stubborn, prideful people, and one who has extremely high expectations (ME) - things can get a little complicated and messy. At least this is the case with our own experience.

Another thing I have learned after being married ten months is that you need to nip your pride in the butt as fast as you possibly can! When you are wrong, you are wrong – no ifs, ands or buts- don’t try to justify why you said something or why you did something if it hurt the other person – the bottom line is feelings were hurt so the best words you can offer and the only thing they really want to hear is …I AM SORRY! And if that doesn’t work try I AM SOOOO SORRY and then if THAT doesn’t work then you just might have to get naked…=)

FINAL THOUGHTS….

One of the main things I learned from reading this book is that our concept of marriage is completely cultural and our expectations for it are also cultural. Within our culture marriage is not an arrangement, it is a choice, and love completely enters into the marriage equation. Thus when you fall out of love you fall out of marriage. However, I believe love is a choice and love is an action. You must choose to love that person each and every day, and that’s when it gets hard. Sometimes you don’t want to choose to love and sometimes you may not want to choose to love that person because sometimes… you just want to choose yourself and toss all those other things aside. However, this is WHY and HOW divorces happen. They happen because people stop CHOOSING to love.

I, on the other hand, have chosen to love Peter EVERY SINGLE DAY and I will continue choosing to love him as time passes by!

Love and Respect.

So for the past few weeks Peter and I have been reading this book together called Love and Respect, and I must say we love it, or at least I do! It has been fun to read a book together again, and he was suppose to take it to the Dominican Republic with him, but unfortunately he forgot it, probably on purpose! So now I have to wait like a whole week before reading from it again. Turns out the book is actually funny and we have had some laugh out loud moments while reading it. There have been many far too many times where I have thought, gosh his wife sounds just like ME! And he sounds just like Peter.

Some insights...In Ephesians 5:33, Paul writes, “Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband”. Interesting huh that the woman isn’t called to love her husband, but to respect him. Loving him comes naturally for her, and not so much for him. The main message in the book is that without love, women react, and without respect men react and he calls this the CRAZY CYCLE. When a husband feels disrespected, it is hard for him to love his wife, and when a wife feels unloved it is hard for her to respect her husband.

He writes, “I leave wet towels where they don’t belong. I leave a loaf of bread on the counter. I leave the counter doors open. I leave book stacked on the living room floor. I have an excuse, of course: I am mentally preoccupied…now don’t get me wrong. I am not a pig. But I am married to Sarah, who is the epitome of neatness and cleanliness, and I flunk by her standards. She is not a perfectionist, but she is logical. Why leave a towel on the bed when a rack is in the bathroom waiting for the towel? Why leave a cupboard door open when the hinge functions both ways? “ – OH MAN I LOVE THIS because I am Sarah and Peter is him. However, I unlike Sarah think gosh why can’t Peter pick up after himself…he knows that it matters to me. If he really loved me he would pick up after himself because he knows it means a lot to me. And the author, Emerson, says that’s the WORST thing you can assume. The bottom line is, your husband does love you, and the wife can’t attack him with that assumption. That was a new insight!

The author, Emerson, writes about how men and women send each other messages in code, based on gender, even though we don't intend to. And he gives a great example as to how this plays out at home as couples are getting dressed in the morning.

She says, " I have nothing to wear." (she means she has nothing new.)
He says, " I have nothing to wear." (he means he has nothing clean.)

I love this example because it is so very true! He then goes on to say that the difference between men and women is that women look at the world through pink sunglasses that color all she sees, while men look at the world through blue sunglasses that color all he sees. Men and women can look at precisely the same situation and see life much differently. He then mentions how men and women also hear differently - God created men with blue hearing aids and women with pink hearing aids. They may hear the same words but get much different messages.

Ephesians 5 commands husbands to love their wives, and commands wives to respect their husbands. Is it really that simple? Why does it seem so much easier than it actually is? I feel like this way of thinking is everywhere now, and on my way to work they were talking about Love and Respect, not the book, but the concepts. The radio host was saying how when her and her husband got married they wrote out their marriage expectations. She of course had pages of expectations, while her husband had about 5 and all of them centered around RESPECT. Then she went on to say for men and women love means different things...for men love IS respect. And after 8 months of marriage I have realized that Peter does want to be loved, but ultimately he longs to be respected.

Overall, I would recommend the book to all married couples and we are only two chapters in! I'll let you know if my thoughts are altered once its finished.

April 8, 2010

Dominican Republic.

So yesterday I received a call from Peter at work informing me that he had been offered a FREE trip to the DR because a guy was thinking about backing out of an already existing trip. I must admit that for just a short moment my heart sunk to the floor simply because i knew staying home wasn't an option and i knew i was going to miss him ALOT while he was gone. For selfish reasons I wanted to plead and say ..no you can't go, we have only been married 8 months, you cant leave me for a whole week on my own, what if something happens? what if someone breaks into the apartment? What if you die in a plane crash? no you just can't go...well let's be honest, I did plead a little bit before i realized how selfish and silly I was being. I mean if you had heard peters voice on the phone, and the excitement that was laced within his words, you would never tell the guy no! But my favorite part was that once the trip was offered, he told them that he had to talk to his wife about it...and i did NOT want to be that wife that had axed her husbands hopes and dreams. NO i wanted to be the wife that encouraged her husbands adventuresome and spontaneous spirit. i wanted to be the wife that did not hold her husband back, but rather encouraged him to be bold in his faith and his abilities.

Then after a full day of waiting... he is informed that he should pack his bags for the DR, BUT its going to cost him. My initial reaction was to panic simply because we are spending so much of our money on our Africa trip, but then I thought Peter has saved this money for times such as these, and he has been dying to go to the DR!! And then to make the situation even more beautiful people started offering to support him in this endeavor. Through all this I have realized how much I deeply love Peter, and how good and gracious our God is. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about the way He has provided for peter and I over these past 8 months. Thank you Jesus for my husband, for adventures, and spontaneity!

Love to Love you.

LOVE

Just this past week during a moment of complete routine and normalcy, peter turns to me on the couch and says I love you more today than I did when we first got married. Yesterday he informed me that he loved me more that day then he had the day before. Truly, for a wife, these words are music to my ears, and my hope and prayer is that we never stop falling deeper and deeper in love with each other. We have been married nearly 8 months now and it truly does keep getting better and better. each and every day i learn something new about him, or about myself and the way i love him.

Someone asked me at work this past week what i have learned after being married nearly 8 months and i said i have learned so much about myself..good things and some bad things. Within marriage your spouse is like a mirror, reflecting the good and the bad parts of yourself. During these past 8 months, I have realized just how selfish, impatient, demanding, unloving and downright cruel i can be. i have realized that my tendency is to be stubborn and yell and kick and scream until peter is tired of attempting to compromise, and i ultimately end up getting my way. I have realized that I love peter more today than I did when we got married. I have realized that i Love to love him, encourage him, support him, kiss him...I love being married. I love living life together, and I love the smallest things, like having breakfast together in the morning, dinner together at night, and going to bed at the same time, i love our night time chats. i love dreaming together. i love that he consults me about decisions big and small. lets be honest, i love it all...but it makes it all the more better because i truly love peter. hes my best friend and my number one buddy and i love being with him. he makes my soul soar and cheers me up when I am down and when the skies are gray. i love being loved by him and loving him in return.

So basically I just love him...did you get that??

Rehearsal.

Sarah and Nick got married this past weekend!!!! What a beautiful wedding it was, but before I get to that and show off pictures of the most beautiful bride I have ever laid eyes on, I wanted to share some photos from the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner at IVARS.

I must say i absolutely LOVE weddings and all the beautiful celebrations that go along with it. Now i don't remember loving weddings as much as I do now until I got engaged myself. My engagement changed my view of things and altered the way I looked at weddings. I was now attending weddings as a future bride to be, and by future, I mean the date was SET. It wasn't something I was just dreaming would happen someday. It was actually a reality. Plus, I love brides...all of them, well at least the ones I have known.

I was a bride once and I fully understand the tension, the stress, the excitement. I know what it feels like to have thousands, or what seems like thousands, of people ask you countless questions that you more than likely do not know the answer to. I also know what it feels like to have your favorite people in one room, celebrating you and your husband and sharing wonderful things about you! It is simply wonderful, humbling and truly overwhelming. SO Sarah and Nick had their rehearsal dinner Thursday, April 1, at Ivars and we were blessed by their love and laughter. I feel soo honored to have been a part of their celebration. Marriage is a gift from God, and that is something I never ever want to forget.

Going to the Chapel.

This past weekend was Sarah's bachelorette weekend. It was a beautiful weekend away in Lake Stevens with Sarah's closest friends. We laughed much, ate much, and showered Sarah with so much love. It was also my first night away from Peter. We have been married nearly 7 months, and we had never slept apart. Don't worry, I survived, and my friend Jennie told me I was extremely lucky that it had taken us this long to sleep apart! So I came home with a new perspective on bed and blanket sharing and a renewed love for my girlfriends.
